Aqara U100 is a strong candidate when you can replace a compatible single-cylinder deadbolt and want Apple Home Key alongside fingerprint, PIN and mechanical-key entry. Budget for the remote-control path you actually need. The lock working at the door does not mean every remote or Matter feature works without supporting hardware.

We reviewed current Aqara product references and its linked U100 manual on 30 September 2026. We did not install the lock, measure fingerprint recognition or test remote access. Amazon search results in our session did not establish an exact individual U100 offer, so the buying link is honestly labelled as a model search. This is not a recommendation to substitute U50, U200 or U400.

Replacement hardware, not an inside-only retrofit

Aqara’s U100 product reference describes a replacement single-cylinder deadbolt. Its stated fit is a 60 or 70 mm backset, a 54 mm door hole and a wooden door 35–55 mm thick. Measure the actual door and consult the installation requirements before ordering; product photos cannot establish that fit.

Check permission to change the lock in a rented or managed property. Also operate the present deadbolt manually with the door open and closed. Binding against the strike is a mechanical issue to resolve before adding a motor. A connected lock is not a door-alignment repair.

The first three rows decide whether this is physically an appropriate purchase. The rest decide whether its electronics meet your household’s needs. Passing the second group cannot rescue a failure in the first.

Home Key and the hub question

U100 supports Apple Home Key, but it is not a native Matter-over-Thread lock. Aqara documents Zigbee-based integrations and requires a compatible Aqara hub for additional Aqara functionality, including remote unlocking and Matter bridging. Apple remote control and automations have their own Apple home-hub requirement. These are distinct routes, not interchangeable meanings of “hub.”

The manufacturer’s U100 manual separates Aqara Home configuration from Apple Home setup. It also explains that the Apple interface does not expose every Aqara setting. Plan to configure and maintain the lock through the relevant official apps rather than assume one platform contains every feature.

If you already own an Aqara hub, check its exact model, region and supported features with U100. Owning a Zigbee device or a third-party coordinator does not prove that the required branded workflow is supported. Count the complete package

Compare lock + required hub + any required Apple infrastructure + installation or door work. Put existing hardware at zero only after compatibility is confirmed. Someone who wants only local keypad entry has a different total from someone starting from scratch with remote Apple access and Aqara automations.

Aqara’s current US U100 package reference provides another place to check colour and bundle identity. On Amazon, inspect the selected offer and contents instead of reading hub inclusion from a search-page title. Match U100 explicitly, verify seller and return terms, and do not count an accessory image as evidence that it is included.

Adding controls can simplify routines, but it also adds batteries, pairing and settings to maintain. Do not create a complicated door-unlocking automation merely because a button can trigger scenes.

Power and access planning

The manual specifies four AA batteries and a USB-C emergency power input. That port is an emergency supply route, not permission to recharge ordinary AA cells inside the lock. Keep the specified replacement batteries and a working mechanical access method available.

Make a simple household record: who administers the lock, how guest credentials expire, who checks battery warnings and how residents enter when a phone is unavailable. A replacement phone, departed housemate or forgotten guest PIN should lead to an intentional access update rather than an accumulation of old credentials.

After installation, check normal entry, a mechanical key, lock status and the chosen remote route while someone can still provide access. Treat successful app pairing as one step, not the whole acceptance check. No product specification establishes recognition success for every finger or provides a security guarantee for a particular home.

Buy U100 when replacement fit is confirmed and its access methods simplify a real routine. Skip it if you need to preserve the outside hardware, have an incompatible door, or are unwilling to maintain the batteries and account access on which the connected features depend.
