Aqara describes 2.6K Quad HD, True Color Night Vision, a spotlight and local AI recognition. The large published aperture and sensor are relevant inputs, but specifications do not prove how a face, plate, pet or package will appear at a particular distance under motion, rain, glare or mixed lighting.
Define the evidence target before mounting:
- Draw the exact zone that must be visible.

Current owner discussions repeatedly focus on continuous recording, subscription boundaries and differences between Aqara and Home timelines. The G5 Pro’s Zigbee and Thread radios can reduce the need for a separate Aqara hub. It can act as a Thread border router and Matter controller, but Matter compatibility does not make every Aqara feature portable to every ecosystem.

Treat each automation as a safety case. A detected vehicle may turn on lights; it should not unlock a door without a deliberate secure control path. A missed or false event should not create danger. Record the trigger, conditions, action, timeout, manual override and failure state.
Test notifications with multiple household members and quiet hours. Confirm whether recognition data is stored, how it is deleted and which account roles can change it.
Privacy and security checklist
The camera covers people and property, so installation is partly a governance decision:
- aim away from spaces the household has no reason to record;
- use unique credentials and multi-factor authentication where available;
- update firmware through the documented Aqara path;
- restrict account roles and review shared access;
- document cloud, local and Apple retention separately;
- test deletion and export before an incident;
- place network equipment on an appropriate segmented network if the home design supports it;
- comply with local notice, audio-recording and neighboring-property rules.
Aqara states end-to-end encryption for footage sent to Apple and Aqara clouds and cites an IoT-security certification. Verify the scope and current service terms; neither statement eliminates account, device-placement or network risk.
Installation and lifecycle
The stand can be placed on surfaces or mounted to walls/ceilings, but the final orientation must keep the intended image upright and the cable protected. For PoE, use compliant equipment and outdoor-appropriate routing. For Wi-Fi, confirm the power adapter and weather-protected connection—an outdoor-rated camera does not make every connector or extension arrangement outdoor-safe.
Before drilling, temporarily mount the camera, run live view and saved-event tests, and verify hub coverage. Record the device identifier, variant, firmware, installation date, cable route and reset procedure. Keep the support guide accessible without relying on the camera itself.
